“The manager cannot delegate ‘is a general complaint for an ineffective manager. The senior manager will berate the junior foreman to hold on to all their workloads, and do not appreciate that they have a team that they have to delegate.
Delegation is one of the main responsibilities of the manager, but some managers feel impossible to delegate and delegate others very badly.
Delegation is not something that happens instantly. Delegation is the ultimate goal of a process carried out every good manager works continuously. The process is one of the managers who develop teams and each team member through various stages until the time is right to delegate.
Train the team for delegates
The purpose of an effective manager is to find out when the team or team members are ready for delegates. A good manager will not only wait now. Managers train their team and team members through various stages to prepare them for delegates.
Managers will work with everyone through the development stage:
The first stage is direction or telling. The manager will clearly state what is expected, procedures and protocols and will expect team members to follow this guideline. Managers will provide feedback on performance and areas for improvement.
The second stage is the coaching stage, where managers encourage their reports to think for themselves. The manager will ask questions that drive to guide the person, and will strengthen or correct appropriately. The aim is to develop and guide team members. Managers want to accumulate their knowledge and experience, and their ability to make a good judgment.
During this stage, the manager ensured that the person he was training had a full understanding of the business, and the company’s management ethos. It helps them make decisions and take action in a way that is in harmony with business.
The third stage is mentoring. The manager now frames the problem for team members, and asks team members to develop a solution. Managers will work through stages with team members, ensuring they are on track, but this is more a report in the scenario which is a training. The manager will approve this problem, and the reporting method. They will approve freedom and limitations for staff members, how far they can go before getting manager approval.
The fourth stage is a delegation. When managers have trained team members sufficiently, and have a good reporting system in place, managers will delegate the project or field of responsibility to team members. Delegation is where all projects or fields of responsibility are handed over to the person. Managers believe the assessment of staff members, and trust the effectiveness of the reporting system.
The manager will clearly approve what decisions can be fully carried out by team members, which decisions must be approved before the action, and which decision will remain in the manager’s hand.
